Mary Morris


Mary E. Morris, 84, of Lower Paxton Twp., passed away Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Homeland Center.

Born in Johnstown, PA to the late Albert and Anne (Lewis) Johnston, she was preceded in death by a brother, A. James Johnston of Virginia Beach, VA.

Mary is survived by her husband, William F. Morris, daughters, Lynn P. Bock of Takoma Park, MD and Susan E. McKie of Northboro, MA; four grandchildren, four stepchildren, eight step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Before graduation from Ferndale High School, she was a student at the Gene Kelly School of Dance in Johnstown. She continued her education at the University of Pittsburgh where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree, and at Shippensburg State College where she received her Master of Education.

Prior to moving to Harrisburg, she taught in the Westmont Hilltop School District, Johnstown and also worked at the Los Alamos Proving Grounds in New Mexico. Mary enjoyed a 27 year career with the Central Dauphin School Dist. where she served as a mathematics teacher at Lower Paxton Jr. High School and guidance counselor at Linglestown Jr. High School.

Mary was an active member of Colonial Park United Church of Christ where she participated in Bible Study, Foose Reading Program and various volunteer programs. She was a member of the Dauphin Co. Retired School Employees, a volunteer with Hershey Medical Center and a friend of the East Shore Library.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, March 6 at 11:00 AM at Colonial Park United Church of Christ, 5000 Devonshire Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17109. Rev. Dr. Bonita Zobeck will officiate. The family will receive friends in the church lounge from 10 AM until time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church or to Alzheimer's Assoc., 3544 N. Progress Ave., Harrisburg, PA 17110-9638.
